Dramatic New Finishes from Dura Supreme

Designers draw inspiration from a variety of sources but taking cues and getting inspiration from nature is a deep well of ideas for many designers.

Recent interior trends that use reclaimed artifacts or industrial elements (original brickwork, exposed beams, warehouse flooring, etc.) are also giving impetus to design trends that utilize raw natural elements.

Retailers like Crate and Barrel, Anthropologie and Restoration Hardware have been using reclaimed and industrial artifacts within their fixtures and store designs for a number of years and that "raw wood" look is beginning to take hold in furnishings as well.

In the images below from Houzz (www.houzz.com), natural elements (driftwood, barnwood, dock planks) and reclaimed industrial artifacts (i.e warehouse windows) are integrated into the interior design with stunning effect.

Inspired by the use of natural elements and artifacts within interior design, designers at Dura Supreme cabinetry began experimenting with different techniques to create this look for kitchen and bath cabinetry.  A unique "weathering" process was developed that raises the grain of the wood (just like exposure to sun, wind and rain would do over time) and then uses specific stains and glazes to highlight the swirls and patterns, and create a "weathered, raw wood" look.
