Trend Study: White on White Kitchens
If you've been reading this blog for awhile, you've heard us say before that kitchen trends often take color cues from the larger world of fashion.
For the last 1-2 years, crisp clean white paints have been trending up along with cleaner, more transitional styling. One trend that has recently emerged is the blending of "white on white" in the kitchen. White painted cabinetry, a white countertop, and a white backsplash. Of course pops of color within various accessories can be used within this color scheme, or even a contrasting metal finish. Floors are usually a contrasting color that will work with the rest of the home's decor.
I found it intriguing today that one of the fashion bloggers I follow (youlookfab) commented specifically on the "white on white" fashion trend that is hot for spring and summer 2013 in clothing. Below is a snip of her Pinterest board showing this white on white fashion trend.
Of course kitchen design is a long term investment and definitely not a seasonal trend, but white on white has long been a look of elegance and luxury. Bringing that look of luxury and elegance into mainstream kitchen design is sure to be a long time classic.
One note of caution, be careful to match your whites carefully between cabinetry, countertops and backsplash tiles. The whites you choose need to be within the same tone or have the same undertone. Don't mix a cool white with a warm white or it will leave one looking dirty. Mix warm whites with warm whites and cool whites with cool whites to create a blended, intentional look! Below are a few examples of beautiful white on white kitchens.
